– A traditional piece of coffee house culture in Graz –

Our café

Counters from the 1930s, tables and armchairs from the good old days, the garden a paradise – Café Fotter in Graz’s Attemsgasse has been charming visitors with its nostalgic charm for over eight decades and has been a fixture for coffee house lovers for generations.

Situated in the 3rd district of Geidorf, a former suburb of Graz and now home to Karl Franzens University, the neighborhood is characterized by ornate facades just a stone’s throw from Graz City Park.

„Fotter Bakery“

Since Anton Fotter founded the “Fotter Bakery” in 1936 (commemorated by the marble plaques on the exterior façade) and the café was added in the 1970s, many a student spent almost the entire semester in the so-called “Lecture Hall F” – athletes, artists and neighbors started their day from here.

The team led by Franz Reiter and Simon Hauzenberger has been running the café since 2016 and reopened its doors after a general refurbishment to coincide with its 80th birthday. Despite the new features, the flair that you encounter when entering the salesroom remains unchanged.

The view of the white and sky-blue lacquered sales counter with its turned half-columns is just as familiar as the view of the crank of the old cash register.

“Pine room” and mirror saloon…

With a total of three, partly redesigned rooms, “das Fotter” offers space for young and old, old and young: the famous Spiegelsalon, which is decorated above all by the large wicker chandelier hanging in the middle of the room, the Zirbenstube, which creates a slightly rustic and homely atmosphere with its bentwood armchairs, jogging tables and wall paneling, or the former kitchen, which now as a new guest room also leaves room for small private gatherings.

Rose garden

However, the most charming spot and one of a kind in Graz is the rose garden. In a picturesque inner courtyard from the Wilhelminian era, you will find inviting seating between roses and fruit trees.

Together with the lively chirping of birds and the quiet murmur of the guests, you stumble into a decelerated time, far away from modern everyday life.

– We love what we do –

Our team

A well-coordinated team with many different characters, united by a love of regional products, quality, decades of tradition, the eye of a happy guest and above all: good coffee. In recent years, friendships have developed not only between colleagues, but also with many regular guests, which we would not want to miss. The fact that there are more and more of them makes us all the happier, makes us grateful and encourages us on our path.

We look forward to many more years together.
